Sunflower, common

Common sunflower is native and present in the entire continental US, and ALS-resistant populations of common sunflower were confirmed in midwestern states in 1996-1997 (below). In areas where ALS-resistant populations are present, infestations should be treated with pre-emergence and post-emergence herbicide mixes that contain two or more other effective modes of action. Online resources for herbicide recommendations for common sunflower are few – for herbicide recommendations for common sunflower, contact your state extension weed specialist.
